After an accident involving a 13-year-old teenager, Cypriot authorities are considering banning electric scooters
Cypriot authorities are seriously considering banning the use of electric scooters in the country following a serious accident involving a 13-year-old teenager.
Speaking on the Alpha News program, the president of the transportation committee emphasized that if the requirements for using electric scooters are not met, authorities will propose a ban on their use.
"We constantly see many scooters everywhere. Legislation exists, but we are lagging behind in its enforcement, pointing to the police, local authorities, and scooter import and rental companies," said the source cited by the publication.
The specialist emphasized that there are practical ways to prevent incidents that companies and local authorities issuing permits for scooter use should discuss.
"If rental companies fail to comply with legislative provisions, we intend to file an application to revoke the right to use scooters with all the ensuing consequences. Revocation is not an end in itself; the goal is to set things right," said the president of the transportation committee.
He also added that scooter use in Paris has been suspended until September due to the Olympic Games.
Recall that earlier this week, in Limassol, a 13-year-old teenager on an electric scooter was hit by a car. The child was hospitalized in critical condition.
