The Cyprus Fire Service responded to 43 incidents in the past day
Over the past day, the Fire Service of the Republic of Cyprus responded to 43 incidents, including 25 fires that required firefighting intervention.
According to a statement by fire department representative Andreas Kettis on the X platform, the largest fire occurred at 13:00 on Wednesday near the villages of Akaki and Denia in the Nicosia district.
The fire covered an area of one square kilometer, burning dry grass, wild vegetation, and eucalyptus trees. As a result of the incident, electrical poles and irrigation hoses were damaged.
Three firefighting teams from fire stations, one from forestry, and two excavators were deployed to extinguish the fire.
By 17:00, the fire was brought under control. An investigation into the causes is being conducted in collaboration with the police.
