President of Montenegro Makes First Official Visit to Cyprus

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, held a meeting with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović. This marks his first official working visit to the island.

During the meeting between the two leaders, which took place yesterday at the Presidential Palace, discussions revolved around bilateral cooperation.

Following the official reception, Jakov Milatović participated in a private meeting with Nikos Christodoulides and continued negotiations between the delegations of the two countries. At the conclusion of the meetings, both leaders issued a joint statement to the media.

The President of the Republic expressed pleasure and honor in hosting Montenegro's President on their first official visit to Cyprus, emphasizing the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and their shared commitment to international law, peace, stability, and prosperity.

Nikos Christodoulides noted that both countries, despite their small size, wield significant political influence and regional roles.

The presidents' talks focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including tourism, trade, investments, education, shipping, culture, and technology. They agreed on a roadmap for finalizing and signing agreements under consideration in these sectors.

The President of Cyprus also emphasized the importance of Montenegro's potential accession to the European Union, drawing parallels with Cyprus's EU accession 20 years ago, which bolstered its international standing and bilateral relations. He also expressed hope for Montenegro's EU accession by 2028.

The presidents also discussed the Cyprus issue. Nikos Christodoulides reaffirmed his commitment to the reunification of Cyprus and thanked Montenegro for its principled position on this matter.

Jakov Milatović acknowledged the excellent relations between Cyprus and Montenegro and highlighted the potential for further development in various fields. The President of Montenegro congratulated Cyprus on the 20th anniversary of its EU accession, noting that Cyprus serves as a role model for Montenegro.
