Five Aircraft Battle Major Wildfire in Limassol Area
A significant wildfire broke out in the Limassol area on Monday, leading to the deployment of aircraft to help contain the blaze. The situation is now under control.
According to a fire department spokesperson, the fire ignited around 11:00 AM near the villages of Souni and Zanatzia in the Limassol district. Approximately five hectares of trees and wild vegetation were destroyed in the incident. Several properties also suffered damage from the flames. Firefighters are continuing their efforts to prevent further spread.
"Final extinguishing operations are currently underway. Air support has been withdrawn. While some homes were saved from the fire, a number of properties were damaged," the fire department spokesperson reported.
An assessment of the damage will be carried out later by the relevant authorities. The police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
