The Cyprus Police are investigating the discovery of a bag containing 30 kilograms of cocaine. Since January, the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YCAN) has confiscated a total of 674 kilograms of marijuana and cocaine.

Speaking on the ALPHA Kalimera program, YCAN Deputy Commander Christos Andreou revealed that the operation leading to this year’s largest cocaine seizure—found in a container that arrived on the island from abroad—was based on actionable intelligence provided to law enforcement.

The 30 kilograms of cocaine were discovered during a search of a warehouse in Larnaca. According to the evidence gathered so far, police strongly believe the container carrying the drugs was destined for another country.

“The container originated in a third country, stopped at two other ports, and eventually arrived in Cyprus,” the YCAN representative stated.

Through European coordination mechanisms, Cypriot authorities have reached out to the countries the container passed through before arriving on the island to aid the ongoing investigation.
