Since the start of 2024, 94 individuals have been arrested in Cyprus on charges related to human trafficking. Petros Zenios, Head of the Police Department for Foreigners and Immigration, stated that efforts to combat illegal immigration on the island have been successful.

"Last year, the total number of arrests for human trafficking was 155. This year, we have already arrested 94 people, which indicates that we are maintaining similar levels to those of the previous year," said Zenios.

Furthermore, this year, authorities have consistently reduced the number of illegal entries into the country compared to the previous year. At the same time, the number of deportations has increased.

It is important to note that, since the beginning of the year, 6,800 individuals who were residing illegally in the Republic have been repatriated. In contrast, a total of 5,977 people were deported from Cyprus over the entire previous year.
