Off the coast of Cyprus, a member of the cargo ship's crew was rescued by helicopter
The Joint Rescue Coordination Center of the Republic of Cyprus (JRCC) successfully conducted an airborne rescue operation for a 48-year-old crew member of a cargo ship off the coast of Cyprus.
According to the JRCC, the cargo ship was located approximately 120 nautical miles southwest of Cyprus, within the search and rescue responsibility area of the Republic of Cyprus (Nicosia SAR), when one of the crew members required medical assistance.
To perform the airlift, a helicopter from the National Guard Aviation Command was mobilized, along with a specialized nurse from the emergency medical service.
Early Wednesday morning, he was safely transported to the general hospital in Paphos.
