Cyprus Marine Police Receives 10 New Patrol Vessels
The Cyprus Marine and Port Police has welcomed ten new patrol vessels into its fleet. The ships were officially launched at the Limassol port by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The President called this a key step in enhancing the country’s maritime security. The fleet, jointly funded by the European Union and the Republic of Cyprus, will significantly strengthen efforts to tackle illegal immigration and transnational crime.
The President added that the government remains committed to equipping security forces with cutting-edge technologies.
A budget of more than €5.64 million has been allocated for the purchase of these vessels as part of the 2021–2027 funding plan.
The new vessels are outfitted with innovative surveillance technologies, rescue equipment, and long-range detection systems, which greatly enhance Cyprus’ operational readiness at sea.
This expansion of the fleet comes amid increasing regional security challenges and rising migration pressures along the island’s coastline.
“The Marine and Port Police, together with the National Guard, have played a critical role in our efforts to combat illegal immigration,” the President concluded.
