In 2023, the President of Cyprus spent over a thousand euros a week on food
The Republic of Cyprus has revealed the presidential expenses for 2023. The head of state spent around 1,145 euros weekly on dining out and takeout.
According to the published data, 59,583 euros were spent on food over the year. Dividing this amount by the 52 weeks in a year, the president's office averages a spending of 1,145 euros per week or 163 euros per day.
Philenews reports that 26,537 euros were spent solely on catering services last year. Officially, these expenses are categorized under "hospitality."
Additionally, it is reported that the president spent 21,544 euros at one restaurant, averaging about 414 euros per week or 59 euros per day. At another well-known restaurant in the capital, the president spent 6,162 euros last year.
Calculations show that the head of state's electricity expenses in 2023 amounted to 278,197 euros, which corresponds to 762 euros per day.
The president's phone bills cost taxpayers 45,997 euros, or 126 euros per day.
Water bills amounted to 9,775 euros, which is 26.6 euros per day.
For the maintenance of presidential vehicles, 38,182 euros were spent at one company and 12,540 euros at another. In total, 50,722 euros were spent on vehicle maintenance, averaging 975 euros per week.
Fuel expenses at one company last year totaled 53,643 euros, averaging 1,031 euros per week or 147 euros per day.
In total, 104,365 euros were spent on the maintenance and fuel for presidential transport last year, which averages 286 euros per day or 2,007 euros per week.
The president spent 29,662 euros on fuel in 2023, which is an average of 81 euros per day.
At one hotel, the president spent 13,235 euros, averaging 1,103 euros per month on accommodation. An additional 5,357 euros were spent at another hotel.
Expenses were also incurred for the purchase of furniture and kitchenware, with 25,120 euros paid to one company and 8,759 euros to another.
For conferences, seminars, and international missions, 624,504 euros were spent. Most of these expenses were for airfare, with the largest amounts going to one company (190,000 euros) and another company (151,540 euros).
The president's informational campaigns cost 39,508 euros. Another 19,075 euros were paid to a jeweler for presidential awards.
