Aircraft Lands on Fuselage After Front Wheel Burst at Alanya Airport
In Turkey, there has been a second emergency landing of an aircraft in two days. At Alanya Airport, an aircraft landed on its fuselage after the front wheel burst. Passenger evacuation was required.
The Corendon Airlines aircraft was operating a flight from Cologne to Gazipasha-Alanya Airport.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, on May 9, 2024, at around 11:00, the front landing gear of the B-738 aircraft was damaged due to a tire burst upon landing on the runway. At the time of the incident, there were 190 people on board, including 184 passengers and 6 crew members. All of them were evacuated. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Preliminary data indicates that the runway was not damaged. However, some flights were redirected to Antalya. After inspection by the technical team, the affected aircraft will be removed from the runway.
Recall that a similar incident occurred at Istanbul Airport the day before. A FedEx Airlines cargo plane, operating a flight from Paris to Istanbul, was forced to land on its fuselage due to the failure of the landing gear.
