Another Suspect in the Contract Killing of a Biker Arrested at Larnaca Airport
Cyprus police have arrested another suspect in the contract killing of a biker at Larnaca Airport. The 28-year-old man had been hiding abroad for a long time.
Police spokesperson Christos Andreou said on the "Alpha Kalimera" show that the suspect had been wanted since the investigation began. On Thursday morning, the 28-year-old man arrived at Larnaca Airport, where he was arrested based on a warrant issued against him.
Along with eight other people previously arrested, he is suspected of organizing the ambush on the motorcyclist during which the assassination attempt was made.
To recall, the attempted murder of Demetris Andronikou, also known as Demetriou, took place in the afternoon of April 23 on the Anytpoli-Palechori road in the Lakatamia area. At the time of the attack, the victim was riding a motorcycle after visiting the central prison. The assailant, who was also on a motorcycle, shot the biker three times, wounding him in the neck.
The victim was hospitalized for a long time. Doctors fought for his life. On May 16, 24 days after the attempt, the man regained consciousness, and his health significantly improved. However, despite their efforts, he could not be saved and passed away at the end of May. The case was reclassified to a more severe charge.
Previously, eight suspects had been arrested in this case and remain in custody until the trial begins on September 11.
