Large-Scale Emergency Exercise Underway at Larnaca Airport
On Wednesday, November 13, a large-scale emergency exercise will take place at Larnaca International Airport, in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s regulations.
According to Hermes Airports, the managing company of Cyprus' airports, the exercise aims to enhance the preparedness of the relevant authorities involved in responding to an emergency involving an aircraft on the ground.
The exercise is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM and conclude around 1:30 PM. During this time, regular flights to and from Larnaca Airport will be temporarily suspended.
The drill is being conducted in cooperation with both public and private sector services operating at Larnaca Airport. An aircraft from one of the airlines will be used to simulate the emergency response procedures. The exercise will also involve civil aviation, the fire department, police, the control tower, and other airport personnel and companies.
"There is absolutely no cause for public concern, as this is a planned exercise designed to simulate the procedures that would be followed in the event of a real incident," said Hermes Airports in a statement.
