Six-Year-Old Child Dies at Makarios Hospital After Being Transferred from Paphos
A six-year-old child has tragically passed away at Makarios Hospital after being transferred from a hospital in Paphos. Local authorities have strongly criticized the quality of medical services in the area, calling for urgent upgrades to the healthcare system.
The heartbreaking news was shared by Paphos Mayor Fedonas Fedonos on his social media page. The child was initially admitted to a hospital in Paphos five days ago with gastroenteritis. As the child’s condition worsened, they were urgently transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Makarios Hospital this morning. Despite the doctors' best efforts, the child did not survive.
The incident has sparked a strong response from Mayor Fedonos, who expressed concerns that the child’s death may be linked to the inadequate medical facilities in Paphos. Preliminary information suggests that the Paphos hospital was unable to accommodate the child's treatment needs due to overcrowding and a lack of resources.
In his post, Fedonos stated that the child’s death occurred because the Paphos hospital "could not handle the case and had no available beds" for treatment.
In addition, over the weekend, the mayor also shared the story of another child suffering from pneumonia, who had to be urgently transferred from Polis to Limassol for treatment, as no local facilities were able to manage the case.
Local authorities in Paphos have repeatedly raised concerns that the demand for better healthcare facilities continues to be ignored, and they are calling for immediate action.
