Europe Day to Be Celebrated in Cyprus Buffer Zone Under the Motto “Together”
On Saturday, May 10, a celebration will take place in the buffer zone in Cyprus to mark Europe Day. The bi-communal event, held under the theme “Together”, aims to highlight values such as peace, diversity, cultural heritage, and unity. It is being organized in collaboration with both the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities.
The festivities will begin in the buffer zone outside the Ledra Palace Hotel, where a variety of activities are planned throughout the day.
The program features cultural and artistic performances, including appearances by local artists and a range of family-friendly activities. The event will open at 3:00 p.m. with a performance by the Songbirds Intercommunity Children's Choir.
A video address by Elisa Ferreira, Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms, will be broadcast on the main stage. Following that, the mayors of both parts of Nicosia — Mehmet Harmancı and Charalambos Prountzos — will deliver welcoming speeches.
Additional performances include the LBO Children’s Choir from the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia and a spectacular glass-balancing dance by Guinness World Record holder and Cypriot performer Dinos Kkanti.
The celebration will also feature performances by Latin Trio, the PAOK Kliros cultural group, folk dance troupe HASDER, and the band Grup Otantik. The evening will conclude with a live performance by the popular Cypriot group Angelos Avgousti and Friends.
A colorful children’s area will run all day, offering a puppet show, renewable energy workshops, a treasure hunt, crafts, face painting, and more. Visitors can also explore informational stands about EU-funded research and projects, as well as learn more about EU member countries.
