Thousands of Pounds Sterling Found Hidden in Elderly Woman's House in Paphos
A hidden stash of thousands of pounds sterling has been discovered in the home of an elderly woman in Paphos. The woman, who lived in squalid conditions, was found to have been hoarding money in her residence.
The shocking discovery was made by employees from the Paphos Municipality, who had been tasked with cleaning the home at the request of the Social Welfare Department. The 74-year-old woman had been living alone in the apartment.
According to Paphos Mayor, Fedonas Fedonos, the municipal workers found bags of pounds sterling hidden inside trash bags in the house.
Upon discovering the stash, police arrived on the scene and seized the money. The total amount came to £13,000, not including various pieces of jewelry. After the money and jewelry were counted, the items were registered. The workers expressed their disbelief, stating that they never imagined they would find such a large sum of money and valuables in the home of an elderly person living in such dire conditions.
Local media reports indicate that the cleanup of the woman's home took around three days. Afterward, a decision was made to evict her and arrange for her hospitalization due to mental health concerns. Authorities are now working to convince the elderly woman to move into a care home.
