Fire Destroys 15-Meter Yacht Belonging to Ukrainians in Ayia Napa Marina
A fire broke out on a moored vessel in Ayia Napa Marina, resulting in the complete destruction of a 15-meter yacht.
Andreas Kettis, a representative from the fire department, reported that emergency services received notification of the fire at the southernmost dock of the marina on Sunday afternoon around 18:30.
According to Marina Director Kostas Fytiris, at approximately 18:40, a 15-meter pleasure boat owned by Ukrainians sought permission to enter the marina. However, upon entry, Marina Control observed smoke and fire traces inside the vessel.
A safety net was deployed around the yacht to prevent other vessels from being endangered, and port personnel towed it to a secure berth and began extinguishing the fire until firefighters arrived.
Three fire engines from Famagusta's fire department were dispatched to the scene, and firefighters successfully contained the blaze using firefighting foam.
All six individuals aboard safely disembarked before the firefighters' arrival, and no other vessels were harmed as a result of the fire.
Despite the efforts of the fire department and marina staff, the boat was completely destroyed. Currently, the vessel is partially submerged. The cause of the fire will be investigated in collaboration with relevant state authorities.
The investigation is being conducted by the fire department and police.
