Internet Fraudster Wanted in Cyprus Arrested in Germany
Authorities in Germany have arrested a 76-year-old man suspected of internet fraud that took place in Larnaca in 2022. After his extradition, Cypriot police officers brought him to the island.
According to the police spokesperson, the man is facing charges of fraud, extortion under false pretenses, and money laundering.
The incident occurred in August 2022 when a Larnaca resident purchased a car online for €150,000. After making the bank transfer, the buyer never received the car and realized he had been scammed. He immediately contacted the police. During the investigation, authorities were able to identify the suspect.
A European arrest warrant had been issued for the man two years ago. On November 24, 2024, he was found and detained in Germany. After legal proceedings, the authorities there approved his extradition to Cyprus.
Cypriot police officers flew to Germany and brought him back to Cyprus on January 30, where he was arrested.
