Public transport buses operated by a Cypriot company in Larnaca have ceased operations en masse following an assault on one of the drivers.

According to local media reports, at 12:00 today, bus drivers stopped their vehicles after a passenger attacked one of them.

A union representative stated that a female passenger on one of the buses had asked the female driver to stop. However, the driver did not hear the request, prompting the passenger to move to the front of the bus and physically assault the driver.

Following the act of violence, the drivers parked their buses. Most of the buses are now stationary at the bus station near Finikoudes.

Representatives of the servicing company stated that they are unaware of the reasons behind the strike and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

Union members representing bus drivers are currently meeting with the company owner to discuss security measures for the employees.
