A Major Forest Fire Rages in Limassol
On Wednesday morning, a large forest fire broke out in the state forest near the village of Parekklisia, near Limassol. The fire has already gotten out of control. Reinforced firefighting brigades are at the scene.
According to emergency services, the fire broke out shortly before 10:00. Dozens of forest firefighters are working at the scene with ten vehicles, along with Limassol Fire Service personnel.
According to the press secretary of the Department of Forestry, Giorgos Konstantinou, personnel from all forest districts of Cyprus have been called in to combat the major forest fire in Limassol. Two planes are involved in extinguishing the fire: one from the British base and the other owned by the police. By noon, the fire had destroyed one and a half hectares of land.
The causes of the forest fire will be investigated by competent authorities.
