New Electric Bike Rental Stations to Launch in Limassol
New electric bike rental stations will be set up in Limassol, with the new bike park being introduced next Thursday by the German bike rental company, Nextbike.
The municipality has described this initiative as a key step toward achieving sustainable urban mobility.
The expansion of bike rental services is being funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe program, which focuses on supporting research and innovation, adapting to climate change, and developing smart cities.
This initiative in Limassol is part of the European project "metaCCAZE," where the Cypriot city participates as part of the "City of the European Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities."
The municipality also highlighted that the goal of these bike installations is to create solutions that will reduce traffic, decrease dependency on private vehicles, and improve the city's resilience and quality of life.
Nextbike is a German company that operates bike-sharing systems in six districts across the island. Rental prices start at €2.50 per hour, with a reduced rate of €1 per hour, or €20 per month with a fixed fee. Users can rent up to four bikes at a time.
