Bus Drivers in Limassol Attacked with Firecrackers: Three Incidents in Two Days
A series of attacks on bus drivers has been reported in Limassol, where unknown vandals have been throwing firecrackers at moving vehicles. One of the drivers was injured, and his colleagues are now considering ways to protect themselves.
Petros Theocharides, Director of Development and Communications at EMEL, shared details during an interview on the Alpha Kalimera program. He explained that the vandals, riding a motorcycle, threw a firecracker into the open window of a bus. The firecracker exploded on the dashboard, injuring the driver in the eye. Fortunately, one of the passengers managed to help the driver steer the bus safely around a corner. At the time of the incident, there were around forty people on board.
The police believe that the same individuals responsible for yesterday's attack are behind similar incidents that occurred two days ago. In the first incident, the firecracker didn’t make it into the cabin because the driver’s window was closed. In the second case, the explosion filled the bus with smoke, but luckily, there were no major injuries.
Police are currently searching for the suspects using surveillance footage.
