According to emergency services, the incident occurred the night before, 100 nautical miles west of Paphos, within the Republic of Cyprus's jurisdiction. The sailor fell overboard from the commercial vessel "NIVIN," which was flying the Panamanian flag.
Upon receiving the distress signal, the "Nearchos" plan was immediately activated, along with all necessary procedures.
A helicopter from the National Guard Aviation Command, a specialized nurse from the Emergency Medical Service, and the ship from which the sailor had fallen were mobilized for the operation. After five hours, the sailor was located.
The sailor’s voice was heard by the crew of the ship, prompting search teams to be directed to the specific location. Around 1:30 AM, the sailor was successfully retrieved from the water and returned to the vessel.
The 24-year-old sailor from Lebanon is in good health and remained on the ship, which continued its journey to Libya.
