An explosion occurred at the Lordos Beach hotel on the Larnaca promenade
In Larnaca, a homemade explosive device detonated at the Lordos Beach hotel. The hotel has been closed for renovations since December of last year.
The explosion occurred around two o'clock in the morning. Fortunately, there were no people nearby at the time. As a result of the incident, significant damage was caused to the entrance and lobby of the building.
"The explosion occurred at the main entrance of the hotel and caused damage to the hotel's reception desk. However, no one was injured, as the building was under reconstruction," the police said in a statement.
Immediately after the explosion, the area was cordoned off by the police. In the morning, a team of pyrotechnicians arrived at the hotel and conducted an investigation, which revealed that the explosion was caused by a powerful homemade explosive device.
Currently, the police are reviewing surveillance camera footage in the area to identify the perpetrators who planted the bomb. The hotel owners will be questioned in the near future.
The Lordos Beach hotel is located on the seafront, east of Larnaca and south of Pyla. It was scheduled to reopen to visitors on May 15th.
