A new gambling addiction treatment center has opened in Paphos, inaugurated by President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. According to the president, the center was established to provide care, support, and treatment for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. He stressed that “this is something that can happen to anyone.”

During the opening ceremony, Christodoulides highlighted that gambling addiction is “a serious and often invisible form of dependency—one that impacts not only the person affected but also their family, who are equally in need of support.”

“We acknowledge that addiction, regardless of its form, is not simply a matter of personal responsibility,” he said. “It is a multidimensional social issue that requires collective awareness, institutional action, and, above all, a scientific approach.”

The president also praised the Cyprus National Addictions Authority for playing “a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of addictive behaviors, including gambling.”

The new center in Paphos is dedicated exclusively to gambling addiction, addressing a longstanding gap in local support services. It offers free assistance to both individuals and their families, including personalized treatment plans and regular consultations with professionals.

President Christodoulides emphasized that the creation of the center promotes equal access to essential therapeutic support for all who need it.
