Hunter Shot in the Eye on the First Day of Hunting Season in Cyprus

The new hunting season in Cyprus began last Sunday, but it started with an unfortunate accident when a hunter was shot in the eye while hunting forest pigeons.

According to the police, around 6:30 a.m., a 46-year-old hunter sustained a shrapnel wound to his eye in the area between Prodromi and Drousia, near Paphos. Reports indicate that the man was shot in the face from a long distance. Although he heard the shot, he did not see where it came from.

It is believed that another 46-year-old hunter from Limassol fired the shot. This hunter offered to take the injured man to the hospital and provided all the necessary information. However, the injured man chose to go to the hospital with a friend instead.

On Monday, the injured man was treated in the emergency department of Paphos Hospital, where a doctor confirmed that a bullet was lodged in his right eye. An ophthalmologist is expected to examine him today to assess the extent of the damage.

The police have already checked the hunting licenses of both hunters, and the investigation is ongoing.
