Air Conditioners to Be Installed in Cypriot Schools
The Minister of Education of the Republic of Cyprus, Athina Michailidou, provided an update on the progress of installing air conditioners in schools. The air temperature in the country has already reached 37 degrees Celsius.
According to the minister, the installation of air conditioners in the first 50 schools—10 in each province—will begin in the next few weeks. The Public Accounts Department is committed to entering into a general framework agreement based on tenders "to avoid any suspicion of favoritism towards a specific company" for the installation of air conditioners in schools.
The contractor will be selected through an open process, which should be completed by the end of May. Once the procedure is finalized, the agreement will remain valid for about five years, eliminating the need for annual tenders. The tax authorities will be able to select companies from the list to carry out the installations.
The minister also noted that, according to the ministry's plan, air conditioners will be installed in almost all schools within three years, except for some institutions located in mountainous areas.
