Over the weekend, Cyprus carried out a sweep for illegal immigrants
This past weekend, the Cyprus Police continued their raids to identify individuals from third countries living illegally in the Republic. A coordinated operation by the country’s law enforcement agencies took place nationwide.
The operation began at 4:00 AM and ended around 12:00 PM. Officers from the Foreigners and Immigration Service (YAM), as well as the Subdivision for Green Line Surveillance and Migration Control, participated in the operation.
During the checks, police detained 24 individuals from various nationalities who were illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus. All detainees were placed under arrest, and the police have already initiated the process of their immediate repatriation, working in cooperation with other relevant authorities.
It is important to note that since the beginning of 2024, over 8,500 people have been deported from Cyprus through repatriation procedures for illegal residents. The police’s efforts to identify and apprehend illegal immigrants continue on a daily basis.
