Hidden Stash of Stolen Gold Found in Nicosia Jewelry Store
Authorities in Cyprus are investigating a major theft involving gold jewelry. A hidden stash was discovered during a police search of a Nicosia jewelry store, leading to the arrest of the shop’s 78-year-old owner.
According to a police statement, the search was part of an ongoing investigation into a series of recent burglaries in the area. On Sunday, two other suspects, aged 19 and 22, were already arrested in connection with the case and remain in custody.
During questioning, the young men admitted to committing ten burglaries between February and November of this year. Police also uncovered evidence that the suspects had sold the stolen gold to the jewelry store owner. A concealed cache of gold items, with a total weight of 62.7 grams, was found during the search of the premises.
One of the burglary victims identified her stolen jewelry among the recovered items. This prompted the arrest of the shop owner, who later confessed to buying the gold without issuing receipts.
