Pomegranate Festival in Ormideia
Kicking off the festival lineup is the Pomegranate Festival in Ormideia, set for tomorrow, September 21.
The timing and location of this celebration are no coincidence; September marks the peak of pomegranate ripening on the island, and Ormideia is surrounded by lush pomegranate orchards.
In ancient times, locals exported pomegranates to Arab countries, and now this fruit is proudly depicted on the village's coat of arms.
During the festival, visitors can sample a variety of authentic products and dishes made from pomegranates, including traditional Cypriot sweets like loukoumi, palouze, and soutzouk loukoum—all enhanced with pomegranate juice and syrup. For those who enjoy festive spirits, pomegranate-based liqueurs and other drinks will be available. A market featuring crafts from local glassblowers will also be on display.
In the evening, a celebratory concert will showcase folk music groups.
