Kazakhstan authorities approved the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus
The authorities of the Republic of Cyprus have proposed to open an embassy in Kazakhstan. The Government of Kazakhstan, in turn, is ready to provide support for the opening of a diplomatic mission in Astana.
According to reports from Cypriot and Kazakh media, this issue was discussed on Monday during the official visit to Kazakhstan by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos. The head of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs was received by the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to the minister, during the meeting with the head of state, bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Cyprus, as well as with the European Union, were discussed.
It is also reported that the President of Kazakhstan supported the intention of the Cypriot authorities to open an embassy in Astana and confirmed Kazakhstan's desire to develop partnership relations with the Republic of Cyprus.
Before the meeting with the president, the minister met in Astana with his colleague Murat Nurtleu. During this meeting, bilateral relations, regional and international events, and the Cyprus issue were discussed.
"I was pleased to start my official visit to Astana with substantive and in-depth discussions with Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu. I informed my colleague about the Cyprus issue and exchanged views on EU-Kazakhstan relations, as well as on regional and international events," wrote Constantinos Kombos on the X platform.
In turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan stated that visa-free travel and the prospects for direct air communication between the two countries were also discussed during the negotiations.
"I believe that initiatives in this context will be implemented in the near future," emphasized the minister.
The signed Memorandum of Understanding provides for the right to operate up to seven flights per week. Kazakh airlines will be granted the right to operate regular flights to Larnaca and Paphos, while Cypriot airlines will be able to fly to Astana and Almaty.
