During exercises in Cyprus, a grenade exploded in the hands of a Greek soldier: his arm was amputated

Two Greek soldiers were seriously injured during exercises in Cyprus. One of them had a grenade explode in his hand. His limb was amputated.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Greece, the tragic incident occurred during exercises in Stavrouni. As a result of the explosion, which occurred after the grenade was thrown, two Greek soldiers serving in Cyprus were wounded.

Both injured soldiers were taken to the hospital, where doctors found various wounds from grenade shrapnel.

According to local media reports, one of the injured, a 23-year-old serviceman, had his right arm amputated. It was his hand where the grenade exploded.

His colleagues and superiors rushed to the scene, provided him with first aid, and then transported him to a private hospital. Subsequently, the 23-year-old also underwent surgery on his eye and face.

According to treating doctors, he is still in the intensive care unit of a private hospital, his condition is assessed as serious, but there is no threat to life.

The second serviceman was also injured by shrapnel from the training grenade, with abrasions on various parts of his body.

According to the Ministry of Defense, an investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the incident.
