During Raid Against Illegal Migrants in Larnaca, Police Officer Bitten
Over the past weekend, a routine raid against illegal migrants took place across Cyprus. During checks in Larnaca, one of the offenders attacked a police officer and bit him on the hand.
According to the investigation, a 28-year-old man actively resisted law enforcement during the check. He pushed one of the police officers, causing him to fall to the ground, and then kicked and bit him on the hand.
After the arrest, it was revealed that the troublemaker was in the country entirely legally, with a temporary residency permit, as an employee. The case of the assault on the police officer is being investigated by the Central Police Station in Larnaca.
In total, during the coordinated operation to identify third-country nationals illegally residing in Cyprus, 26 individuals of various nationalities were arrested. Among them, during a restaurant check in the Famagusta province, two individuals were found to be working without permission. A case of illegal employment is being investigated against their employer.
The operation began at 5:30 a.m. the day before and concluded around 1:00 p.m. After the raid, the police, in collaboration with other competent authorities, commenced procedures for the immediate repatriation of individuals arrested for illegal stay in the Republic.
