Over the Weekend, Police Detain 24 Illegal Migrants in Cyprus
Over the weekend, Cypriot authorities detained 24 people of various nationalities who were found residing illegally within the Republic of Cyprus. The individuals are now in custody, with police working closely with other agencies to expedite their repatriation.
The operation, led by the Aliens and Immigration Unit (YAM) and the Green Line Surveillance Sub-Unit, began at 4 a.m. on Sunday and wrapped up by midday.
In just the past week, law enforcement arrested 63 third-country nationals for illegal residency and initiated repatriation procedures for 173 individuals.
Authorities have reported that 8,806 undocumented migrants have been deported from Cyprus since the beginning of the year.
