Nurses' Strike in Cyprus Cancelled
Nurses in the Republic of Cyprus have decided against suspending work following the intervention of the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY).
According to the Philenews newspaper, after nearly 24 hours of negotiations, meetings, and dialogues, the unions representing nurses in the public sector have decided to cancel today's planned protest action in state hospitals.
This decision was made after OKYPY sent a letter to two nursing unions (PASYDY and PASYNO), outlining the steps that the State Health Services Organization intends to take to address all staffing issues in hospitals.
Earlier, representatives of the nurses' unions announced a work stoppage on Thursday in protest against staff shortages. The action was scheduled to take place from 12:00 to 13:00 outside state hospitals.
In their statement, the unions emphasized the need to hire 148 nurses, arguing that state hospitals are experiencing a severe shortage of staff in some departments.
