Women in Cyprus Live Longer Than Men
According to data published by the EU's statistical service, Eurostat, in 2022, life expectancy at birth for women was higher than for men in all EU regions, including Cyprus.
Specifically, life expectancy for women in Cyprus was 83.4 years, which is 3.7 years longer than for men, who had a life expectancy of 79.7 years. This figure is close to the EU average, where the life expectancy for women was 83.3 years and for men, it was 77.9 years.
The highest life expectancy for women was recorded in Madrid, Spain, at 87.7 years. The second and third places were also taken by regions in Spain—Navarre and Castile.
For men, the longest life expectancy was recorded in Madrid (82.4 years), followed by Trento, an autonomous province in Italy, and Stockholm, the capital of Sweden (both 82.3 years).
The lowest life expectancy for women was recorded in the French region of Mayotte, located in the Indian Ocean, at 74.4 years. This was followed by the northwest (76.4 years), north-central (77.0 years), and southeast (77.6 years) regions of Bulgaria.
The lowest life expectancy for men was recorded in three regions where it fell below 70 years: the northwest region of Bulgaria (68.7 years), Latvia (69.4 years), and the north-central region of Bulgaria (69.6 years).
The largest gender differences were recorded in the Baltic countries, as well as several regions of Poland and Romania. The biggest gap was observed in Latvia, where the life expectancy at birth for women was 10 years longer than for men.
