Residents of Strovolos Lodge Complaints about a Cat Poisoner
The Cypriot environmental movement "Ecologists-Cooperation-Citizens" has received a complaint from residents of the Strovolos area in Nicosia regarding the mass poisoning of cats. It is reported that at least 20 animals have died.
As reported by the Philenews publication, citing the environmental service, the mass poisoning of cats in the Strovolos area occurred a few days ago near the National Martyr Cyprianou High School. The incident stirred up the entire neighborhood, as poisoned cats were found in the yard of every house.
According to local residents, an unknown criminal set traps and bait (shrimp, fish bones) with poison throughout the area. This led to the tragic death of at least 20 cats.
The police have been informed about the incident, providing relevant evidence. The case will be referred to the animal police for further investigation. Residents of the neighborhood have also been informed about the incident, spreading information that an animal killer is active in the area.
"We demand that the animal police investigate cases of cruelty and the killing of animals with the utmost seriousness. Those responsible must be held accountable. Impunity leads to the repetition of the same horrifying incidents and the killing of other animals," said the statement from animal rights activists.
