The Meteorological Service of the Republic of Cyprus has announced the names for potentially hazardous and intense weather systems for the 2024-2025 season. Among the names selected are Zoya, Pelagia, and Gerasimos.

This initiative follows a trilateral agreement between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, which began on October 1, 2021. The goal is to name weather systems expected to bring severe conditions that will affect the Eastern Mediterranean throughout both cold and warm seasons.

The full list of names for these weather phenomena has been published on Platform X.

Proposed names for these natural events include Alexandros, Bora, Calderon, Daphne, Ermis, Frida, Gerasimos, Hemera, Idan, Julia, Kinyras, Liri, Marinos, Nestor, Omer, Pelagia, Kesem, Romi, Solon, Triya, Uriel, Valeria, Yarden, and Zoya.

According to the Meteorology Department, the list of names, selected and used in alphabetical order, was compiled in collaboration with the meteorological services of the three countries, reflecting the linguistic traditions of each.

These names will be assigned to weather events occurring from October 2024 through September 2025.
