Sardine Beach in Northern Cyprus
Many know it as Sardunya Bay, but it actually translates as Sardine Bay. Here’s what you can find there.
Sardunya Bay Beach
A turquoise bay on the northern coast of Cyprus, surrounded by rocky cliffs, really resembles the beaches of the Italian island of Sardinia—perhaps that’s why it got its name. As for sardines, you can find them at the café on the shore of this bay.
If you continue from the café along the bay toward the sea on the right side, you'll reach a cliff with an organized trail. This is the start of a pedestrian and cycling path leading toward Lapta—a very scenic route.
Beach Infrastructure
A few sun loungers are provided by the owners of the café of the same name, and that’s pretty much the only infrastructure on the beach. You can choose not to use the services and simply enjoy the views on the fine pebble shore.
The café has showers and toilets. The café itself often features live music on weekends and some other days, with musicians starting as early as 4 PM, even before sunset.
How to Find Sardunya Beach
The bay is located between the villages of Lapta and Karşıyaka. You can reach it not only by car but also by minibus from Girne (look for one with "Lapta" written on the windshield) or by bus from Güzelyurt to Girne. Ask the driver to stop near Sevinç Garden Cafe, and from the road, you’ll need to walk about a kilometer toward the sea.
By car, it's even easier—its location is given below. Parking is available near the café at these coordinates: 35.359599831270465, 33.138211176053474. There is another parking spot 50 meters before reaching the café in case you are not planning to visit it.
