Cantara Castle: what to see, how to get there, entrance fees

One of the three most famous castles of the Kyrenia Range. If you have already seen Illarion and climbed Buffavento, Kantara is worth adding to your collection.

Of all the three buildings, Kantara is the easternmost and is already located on the Karpas Peninsula, famous for its donkeys. We recommend that you visit them on the same day.

The fortress isn't as high as Buffavento, but from 630 meters Karpas is visible at a glance, which will appeal to lovers of stunning panoramas. In clear weather, you can even see the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

The castle has in common with Hilarion that it grew out of a monastery - a small chapel is still preserved, although the Byzantines, Venetians, Lombards, and Crusaders often didn’t spare the castle when conquering each other.

You can’t drive up to the castle except by car or with a tour, but it’s quite easy to get there if you have a car, and the road is not as extreme as Buffavento Castle. Location is on the map below.
