Lara Beach in Cyprus
Lara Beach on the Akamas Peninsula is known for its wildlife, clean coastline and sea turtle nests. Getting here is more difficult than reaching the urban beaches of Paphos, but this remoteness has helped preserve the area almost completely free of development and tourist infrastructure.

Lara Beach
Lara Beach is located away from the busy tourist areas of Paphos, on the western coast of the Akamas Peninsula. It is a protected natural area without large hotels, dense development or the usual beach entertainment.
The shore is covered with sand, and the entry into the sea is mostly gentle. Swimming conditions depend on the weather: the western coast is exposed to the open sea, so waves and strong currents are possible on windy days. The water is usually clearer near the rocks, but only calm weather is suitable for snorkelling.
Infrastructure at Lara Beach
There are no hotels, showers, toilets, sun lounger rentals or other resort infrastructure on the beach. The nearest accommodation options, shops and cafés are located in Peyia and the Coral Bay area.
Before your trip, take drinking water, food, a hat, sunscreen and a bag for rubbish. Do not place umbrellas or other structures in the sand in nesting areas: unmarked nests may be located beneath the surface.
Turtles at Lara Beach
Lara is part of the protected Lara — Toxeftra area, which has been used to protect sea turtle breeding grounds since 1989. Two species lay their eggs here: the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta).
The nesting season begins in late spring and continues through the summer. Females come ashore mainly at night, dig nests in the sand and lay their eggs. The nests are marked and covered with protective structures so that they are not accidentally damaged by people or animals.
Hatchlings begin to appear in the second half of summer. You may see them only by chance, so a trip to Lara should not be considered a guaranteed turtle-watching excursion. Do not dig up nests, go beyond the barriers, pick up hatchlings, guide them towards the water, shine a torch or use a flash.

How to get to Lara Beach
By car
From Paphos, drive towards Peyia and Agios Georgios, then follow the signs to the Akamas Peninsula and Lara Bay. The final part of the route follows a dusty, unpaved and uneven road in places.
Before travelling in a rental car, check the terms of the agreement: some companies prohibit driving on unpaved roads, and insurance may not cover damage incurred on such sections. After rain, the road becomes more difficult, especially for vehicles with low ground clearance.
As part of an excursion
Lara Beach is included in the itineraries of jeep tours and other excursions around the Akamas Peninsula. This is a convenient option for those who do not want to drive on an unpaved road in a rental car. Before booking, check whether the stop is directly at the beach and how much time is allocated for the visit.
By public transport
There is no direct regular bus to Lara Beach. Public transport is suitable only for travelling to the populated areas of the coast; the remaining part of the route must be covered by car, taxi or as part of an excursion.
