Events to mark Resistance Day to be held in Northern Cyprus on 1 August

Ceremonies and events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Security Forces, the 68th anniversary of the Turkish Resistance Organization and the 455th anniversary of the conquest of Cyprus will be held in Northern Cyprus.

According to the Security Forces Command, all military memorials across the TRNC will be open to the public from 22 July to 1 August.

As part of the celebrations, the traditional 10-kilometre “Resistance March” will start from the People’s Garden in Nicosia at 18:30 on 27 July. The finish will also be located in the People’s Garden, while the awards ceremony for the winners will take place at the amphitheatre at 20:15.

An additional awards ceremony for the athletes who finish in the top places in the overall men’s and women’s standings will be held on 1 August at 10:15 at the TMT Veterans Association building.

On 1 August at 09:30, wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at the Atatürk monuments in Nicosia and district centres. A ceremony at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Nicosia will take place at 10:00, followed by a ceremony at the monument in Republic Park at 12:00.

On the evening of 1 August at 20:00, an official reception marking the anniversary of the organisation’s establishment will be held in the garden of the Security Forces Command headquarters.
