18-year-old man suspected of assaulting 48-year-old fiancée: she suffered severe injuries after falling from a window
In the village of Doğancı, 18-year-old O.Y. appeared in court accused of causing serious bodily harm and severely assaulting his 48-year-old fiancée.
According to the police representative who addressed the court, the incident occurred on 1 August at around 06:30 in the house where the couple lived together. Preliminary information suggests that an argument broke out between them over an issue related to taking the child to live with them. During the altercation, the young man allegedly struck the woman several times on the head with his hands.
Trying to protect herself, the woman locked herself in the bedroom. However, after the man began breaking down the door, she feared for her safety and jumped from the window from a height of approximately four metres.
As a result of the fall, the woman suffered a spinal fracture and brain haemorrhage. She is currently under observation in the neurosurgery department of Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa. According to doctors, her condition is considered life-threatening.
The suspect was detained and the police launched an investigation. The law enforcement representative said that additional statements needed to be obtained and requested an extension of the detention period.
The young man himself told the court that his only wish was to see his fiancée.
Judge Ergin Atıcı ordered that the 18-year-old suspect remain in custody for a further three days.
