Celebrations marking Peace and Freedom Day to take place in Northern Cyprus on 20 July
Official events marking the 52nd anniversary of Peace and Freedom Day will take place in Northern Cyprus on 20 July.
The celebrations will begin in the morning at the Memorial to the Fallen in Lefkoşa and at Yavuz landing beach. Memorial ceremonies and festive events will also be held throughout the day in Güzelyurt, İskele, Kyrenia, Famagusta and Lefke.
At 15:00, the Eastern Mediterranean Vessel Traffic Services Centre and the new building of the Coast Guard and Rescue Service will be inaugurated in Famagusta.
At 17:30, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa. At 18:00, a military parade will be held on Dr Fazıl Küçük Boulevard, while the SoloTürk aerobatic team will perform in Kyrenia at the same time.
The official day will conclude with a reception at the presidential residence hosted by President Tufan Erhürman and his wife.
In addition, residents will be able to visit Turkish Naval Forces vessels. The submarine TCG I. İnönü and the missile boat TCG Zıpkın will be open to visitors at the tourist port of Kyrenia, while the frigate TCG Gökova, anchored offshore, can be visited aboard boats departing from Kyrenia’s Old Harbour.
