381 drivers penalised for road violations
Northern Cyprus Traffic Police checked 2,690 drivers during an inspection carried out across the country.
As a result of the checks, 381 drivers were held accountable for traffic violations that posed a danger to other drivers and pedestrians. In addition, 40 vehicles were banned from further use.
The most common violation was speeding — 153 drivers were found to have exceeded the speed limit.
In addition, 14 drivers were operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, while three were driving without a licence and insurance.
Police also identified cases of using a phone while driving, failure to wear seat belts, operating vehicles without a roadworthiness inspection and a permit to drive, as well as other violations.
More serious violations were also recorded during the inspection: dangerous driving, running a red light, riding a motorcycle without a helmet and failing to comply with a police order to stop.
