430 drivers penalised for road violations in Northern Cyprus: speeding most common
During nationwide checks on the roads of Northern Cyprus, police uncovered hundreds of violations. As a result of the raids, 430 drivers were held accountable, while 35 vehicles were taken off the road.
According to the police, road service officers inspected 2671 vehicles.
Speeding was the most common violation — reports were issued against 196 drivers.
In addition, 25 people were penalised for driving without a valid road permit, while 16 — for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Other violations were also recorded:
— 14 drivers failed to comply with road signs and markings;
— 10 people drove without wearing a seat belt;
— 8 vehicles had not passed a technical inspection;
— 5 drivers used vehicles without insurance;
— 3 people used a mobile phone while driving;
— 2 drivers operated a vehicle without a driving licence and insurance coverage.
In addition, one driver was held accountable for dangerous driving, while another was penalised for violating the rules governing the use of an electric scooter.
Administrative proceedings were also initiated in connection with 149 other violations.
