TRNC Union of Bar Associations to provide free lawyers to victims of the Filo Jet crash

Those injured in the Filo Jet disaster and the families of those who died will receive free legal assistance for civil claims. The decision was made by the Central Council of the TRNC Union of Bar Associations, which has already published a list of lawyers.

As union chairman Hasan Esendağlı said, applications can be made in two ways: by visiting the Union of Bar Associations in person or by filling out a form on the organisation’s website. Applicants can choose a lawyer themselves from the published list.

The selected lawyer will then bring two more colleagues onto the case, who will assist with the proceedings alongside them. Those who apply will not be charged any money under any circumstances throughout the legal proceedings.

The Filo Jet crashed off the coast of Girne on 30 August. There were 267 people on board; 239 were rescued, the bodies of 14 victims were recovered, and another 14 people remain missing. The wreckage lies at a depth of 554 metres, and the search continues.

There are 9 suspects in the case, including the company director, the captain, mechanics and crew members. Arrest warrants have also been issued for five others.
