Court extends detention of two suspects in shooting at club in Alayköy by 4 days

A court in the TRNC has extended by 4 days the detention of two men suspected of an armed attack on a nightclub in Alayköy near Lefkoşa. According to police, they opened fire on the venue’s sign with an unregistered hunting rifle after being refused a table.

The incident took place on 28 August at around 00:30. A police representative told the court that the suspects — identified in the case as K. B. and D. D. — fired at the club’s sign with a Felix Sarasqueta rifle for which they did not have a permit.

The men were detained in a vehicle with registration number LD 558 near Girne. During a search, police seized the same rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition.

They are charged with the illegal possession and use of a firearm, the illegal possession of explosives and firing in a populated area.

Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç granted the prosecution’s request and remanded both men in custody for a further 4 days, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences. Police are continuing to investigate how the rifle came into the suspects’ possession.
