Luxury WOODLAND VIP Center for Seniors Opens in Karsiyaka

A ceremonial opening of the unique WOODLAND VIP center for seniors took place in Karsiyaka on 25 June 2026. Key state figures attended the event, including Prime Minister Ünal Üstel (mistakenly translated in the text as “Eksponal”), Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Labor and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, as well as representatives of the local Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel municipality (LAC). Heads of the relevant departments described the facility as one of the most important investments in the country’s social infrastructure.

Speaking at the opening, Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı said the newly created complex is a new type of retirement home where absolutely all the needs of elderly people are fully met, emphasizing that there is no similar center in terms of comfort even in Southern Cyprus. The director of the institution, Ayhan Arıklı, added that WOODLAND was conceived not simply as a place of shelter, but as a warm, safe and modern resort-style living environment amid nature. According to him, in terms of its comprehensiveness, the facility could claim to be among the first of its kind in the world. A walking area is planned across the road in the wooded area opposite the center, and the management has already asked the authorities to equip a safe pedestrian crossing.

Labor Minister Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu noted that against the backdrop of the usual construction of hotels and residential complexes, the creation of a VIP facility with such a specialized concept is a unique precedent for the TRNC. In turn, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel thanked the investors for their contribution to the country’s development and separately mentioned the infrastructure context. He reminded those present that the road between Kyrenia and Karsiyaka (translated in the text as “Keshtka”) had for years been referred to as the “road of agony,” but the government transformed it into a modern divided highway, thanks to which the new WOODLAND VIP center can now be reached in complete safety and comfort.
