The Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (Kıbrıs Türk Tabipleri Birliği — KTTB) has made an official appeal to the authorities, demanding urgent measures to protect public health ahead of the summer season. In its statement, the association stresses the need for strict oversight of public beaches and swimming pools, which become the main leisure spots for residents and tourists.
Doctors are paying particular attention to water safety. The association is calling for certified lifeguards to be present at all beaches and resort areas at all times, as well as for proper medical stations to be set up to provide first aid. Experts remind that the lack of adequate supervision leads to tragic incidents every year, which could be avoided if basic safety rules were followed.
In addition, the KTTB pointed to the critical importance of regular monitoring of water quality. Doctors are urging state authorities to carry out systematic microbiological tests of seawater and pool water, and to make the results of these checks transparent and accessible to the public. According to them, an uncontrolled environment can become a source of dangerous infectious diseases.
The association said it was ready to provide expert support and called on all relevant bodies, including municipalities and the Ministry of Health, to act together. KTTB leadership stressed that people’s health and safety must come first, and that delaying the introduction of strict control standards in the middle of the season is unacceptable.
