Air Travel in Northern Cyprus Recovers: Ercan Handles 3.38 Million Passengers in Seven Months
Passenger and air traffic at Ercan Airport continues to grow. In the first seven months of 2026, the airport handled 3,378,959 passengers, while the number of take-offs and landings reached 22,447. T&T Airport Operations reported that between 1 January and 31 July 2026, passenger traffic increased by 8.90% compared with the same period last year. In the first seven months of 2025, 3,102,581 passengers used the airport. In 2026, this figure rose to 3,378,959.
The number of take-offs and landings also increased — from 20,585 in January–July 2025 to 22,447 during the same period in 2026. Air traffic growth stood at 9.05%. July was the busiest month. During the month, 574,000 passengers passed through Ercan Airport, while the number of take-offs and landings reached 3,654. In July 2025, these figures stood at 512,105 passengers and 3,249 aircraft movements.
Thus, passenger traffic increased by 12.25% in July, while air traffic grew by 12.47%. The highest passenger traffic growth during the first seven months was recorded in January, at 14.26% compared with January 2025. The maximum growth in air traffic was recorded in March, at 13.29%.
The data for the first seven months show that in 2026, Ercan Airport continues to demonstrate growth in passenger and air traffic amid rising demand for air travel.
